Oh, man Lordes Grobet is why I subscribe to this newsletter. Every week, there's always something new and cool to go and check out. I'm trying to see if I can get this book from my library. It looks like it is a collector's item now.
I’ve been seeing the trash journal everywhere lately and I love it! As someone who can’t part with stickers or gift tags or tickets or receipts, it sounds like the perfect project for me. 😎
I listened to a podcast recently with a woman who reads akashic records and a woman who teaches Human Design.
The thing that really stuck in my head like an earworm, was about an akshic reading with a man who was diagnosed with ADHD. She said that he was meant to be exactly as he was. His brain sees the world differently and from multiple points of view. The problems that happen are when he tries to stop being who he was meant to be.
This made me think about how we label people and define them as different, other, abnormal etc, but we should probably be spending more effort on accepting, helping, and developing their skills just the way they are.
My sister is intellectually disabled. She definitely needs help with many things, yet she is strong, has tons of friends, and is very adaptable. By letting her live her life and give her the skills she needs, she had a job for over 30 years at the same place, she lived on her own, and she even took care of my mother as her health declined.
She may never be good at reading or math, but she is helpful, remembers how to get places, and she is creative, and friendly.
I am lucky that I wasn't diagnosed with ADHD until I was an adult. I got to be me unaltered, non-linear, and a bit wild as a child and to infinity and beyond.
Here's the link to the podcast if anyone is curious.
In just one of many things this week that have made me think I'm losing my mind, I went to look for the trashy memento journal comment on the diary walkthrough post and it was gone! But wait - it was on the "Here's Your Ticket" post. Yesterday the emoji style in Teams changed abruptly in the afternoon (and not for the better). I'm so glad it's Friday...
Also, sorry to be that person pointing the link error, it's my librarian nature.
This was a really good news letter! I am a Beatles fan …songs from my high school daze. Did you watch/listen to the latest Newport Folk Festival? Joni Mitchell (another icon of my youth … and beyond) played and sang having recovered from a brain aneurysm …such triumph!
Speaking of the Beatles, I picked up a record this week called The Lotus Palace by the Alan Lorber Orchestra - it's a mix of raga jazz inspired jams that has a couple of Beatles' covers, including a great instrumental version of Within You Without You - here's a link to the full album on YouTube if anyone is interested in some focus Friday music: https://youtu.be/MjvtBAd7ywk
You might want to check out this book, Easy-Listening Acid Trip, about easy listening covers of the Sixties hits of the day. As you can imagine, there's a lot of Beatles in there.
Awesome! I always buy $1 records when I spot a Beatles cover by an artist I don't know - my wife said I need to record them all for a future DJ mix which is a great idea - I think my favorite find is a $1 record of a high school band from Columbus, OH called Whetstone High School Stage Band. It's from 1965 and the band plays a Hard Day's Night which is pretty fun.

Loved the trashy mementoes idea. I’m having so much fun adapting my new diary habit, finding what I want it to be! 😁
Love the trashy memento idea. Years ago I visited Paris and bought a small book with photos of items left on the subway. It still brings me joy!

Always an inspiration Austin! Many thanks. Nice to see you mentioned in David Brooks’ column in today’s NY Times!
Did not have that on my summer bingo card! Haha :)

What's funny is that *I* couldn't find it in the comments either — my brain had miswired it to the diary post. Have updated!

Special thumbs up to items 2, 6 and 9.
The earworm will not be denied.
