OK, how have I never come across @subwaytakes?!!! F’ing brilliant.
I lived in NYC for 13 years and the subway was—I kid you not— the only place where I’ve had repeated existential moments where I look around at all of the different and weird and beautiful iterations of humanity and feel overcome with joy at being in the sea of it. And yes, of course, there were many times when I wanted to scream and punch people too… but that’s NYC. You love it. You hate it. (But you secretly really just love it.) And the people. There are no better people on this earth than New Yorkers. I swear. As evidenced by these amazing subway conversations.
Anyway, thank you so much, Austin for telling me about this. It totally made my day.
I've embraced completely what made the hours roll like minutes as a child and it's changed my life. Also loved Pee Wee Herman documentary and the very early days of the playhouse set! Good stuff here.
Have you read Stephen Graham Jones’s The Angel of Indian Lake horror trilogy? It’s magnificent, and Jaws is a big part of it. I’ve only ever watched it once—it’s good but I am better at reading horror than watching it, lol.
Also, I’m still weird as an adult because of what made me weird as a kid.
If anyone is near Houston, they are doing live orchestra with Jaws this June.

Thanks for including the bit about Mujica. I spammed so many people with the article you reference in the Book Truckin' post (https://www.nytimes.com/2024/08/23/world/americas/pepe-mujica-uruguay-president.html?unlocked_article_code=1.LE8.U6ns.yhBc2a6T6Ho4&smid=url-share). I think about the thing he said about shoes (importing 27 million pairs a year for < 5 million people) probably once a week. Also thanks for the tip on the documentary.

Would you believe I've never seen Jaws?! I need to get on that NOW.
Dang! Late July 4 is great for it
Yes you do.
Will definitely be picking up Guy Delisle’s Muybridge bio. Really enjoyed Rebecca Solnit’s book on him from a few years back. https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/288108/river-of-shadows-by-rebecca-solnit/
Lots of great nuggets in here. I enjoyed getting lost for a little bit.
