I'm generally a bit terrified when it comes to seriously scary movies, but for the first time ever, I'm embracing the season and making a watch list for the month. Your movie list is great and gave me a lot of ideas!
I'm especially excited because a movie theater in my city is doing a Hitchcock series this month, so some of those are on my list.
Spooky Season is my favorite! I'm going to be taking part in an October drawing challenge - I've pulled together prompts from several different lists, but most of them are from Janelle Shane's AI generated Botober lists (https://www.aiweirdness.com/botober-2022-draw-human-draw/). Plenty of spooky subjects, and downright weird as well. A bufflehead duck that is also a girl band? A lava lamp rodent? I love the challenge of drawing weird nonsensical things.
Yay for Spooky Season! Last night I spent a little time curating my Spooky Season TBR pile. Being a mood reader, it’s very difficult for me to plan ahead. Actually, the planning is a delight, I just never stick to the plan. Giving monthly reading themes a try, and pulling all the spooky atmospheric selections off my shelves. October’s theme “Dark & Spooky, Ghosts Abound.” Maybe I will throw a few movies in too!
If you're looking to check out Austin's movie recommendations, the Criterion Channel has quite a few of them including the Universal Classic Monsters, Black Cat, and Island of Lost Souls plus vampire, '80s horror, and kaiju collections.
When I saw A. Rickman facsimiles, I was so excited, thinking at first that the whole book would be handwritten and illustrated (still on my first cup of coffee here). Admittedly his handwriting isn't the most legible--it's so marvelous, it seems like it would be, but on second glance, it's pretty hard to decipher--still, I'd love to have that version of the book.
I put the Beatles book on hold. I plan on re-watching "Get Back" again later in the year, so it's time to prep.
Great newsletter, as always! Thanks for all the work you put into it!
Great newsletter Austin— keep going! Love October too! And congrats on your studio!
I love your studio! ❤️

Hey Austen, Have you seen the Penguin Classics Deluxe Editions Series? They’ve commissioned artists to do spectacular covers. If not, check them out.

Hoopla, Kanopy, and *gasp* physical copies at your local libraries may be good options too!
