Thank you for the link to the obit for Carl Dean! I’m not into country music, but grew up around Dolly, Johnny, and Willie that my parents enjoyed. But in the last decade have discovered bluegrass and love it.

#1 and #2 especially spoke to me this morning (and still this afternoon, lol). Instruments of choice (and voice) lately are the Pentel Sign pens, a thicker Staedtler pigment liner (maybe the right name; it’s at home), and a black Flair marker.

Birds—I love my playlist of Cornell Labs live birdcams on YouTube! Glad to know Athena’s will be turned on soon. My fave right now is the one in Ontario—it’s only on the winter. All the little redpolls, the Pine and Evening Grosbeaks, Canada jays, juncos, and even crows. The Red-tailed hawks at Cornell U are nesting and the Barred Owls in Indiana have one egg in their box.

I needed this today. Thank you!

I recommend checking out Messiaen for bird songs in his music.

His music is not always easy on a first listen but well worth it.

Interesting convo you and Holiday had. “You got another think coming” just blew my mind.

Your #2 - “Listen to the birds…. That's where all the music comes from.” Reminded me of the Duolingo French podcast I listened to recently about the musician Chassol who used the sounds of Martinique to create an album, including recordings of someone who could imitate the local birds. Maybe you and your son would like listening to his album? https://podcast.duolingo.com/episode-106-la-melodie-de-la-martinique-the-sound-of-martinique-revisited

Aha! You're a bass player. You can't mention James Jamerson without a link to "Standing in the Shadows of Motown" -- the great documentary about The Funk Brothers -- the backup band at Hitsville, USA. < https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standing_in_the_Shadows_of_Motown >
