Nicholson Baker's U&I is one of the best memoirs I've ever read -- the story of his obsession with the writer John Updike. I think about it all the time and haven't read it for 20 years.... This new book of Baker's looks fantastic. I didn't know he had a new one coming out. Thanks for mentioning it.
I picked up at a thrift store Devil in a Blue Dress by Walter Mosley.... it was so good, so well written and paced.... I picked up 2 more of his books at the library. And, the Longmire series of books by Craig Johnson....just good escapist books I need right now.
My husband and I watched What's Up Doc a couple months back...I hadn't seen it since I was a kid. The romance aspect doesn't make a lot of sense, but I was SCREAM LAUGHING at the chase scene! It is stunning.
‘Barry Lyndon’ is one of my top ten favorite films - so visually arresting - and O’Neal perfectly cast. I’ll cast a couple bucks toward Prime for a Christmas viewing.
Re: Braugher - perhaps the best single hour of TV ever produced is the episode in which he plays opposite Vincent D’Onofrio entitled The Subway. Both at the top of their game.
I almost cried when I learned Andre Braugher died. Homicide: Life on the Street is probably my favorite crime series ever. I never missed an episode. A few years ago I put several DVDs containing the entire series in my Netflix DVD queue, so maybe you can get those on ebay?
I preordered the Nicholson Baker book. I didn't know it was coming, until I read about it here. I'm very grateful that you share what you find.

Thank you for "Jazzy Christmas Baby". Love jazz & I get so tired of the classics.

Andre Braugher in Homicide was the best. Definitely worth watching

Almost 5 hours of beautiful interpretations of classic Christmas songs and creative, festive originals. Happy holidays to all of you!
Andre was such a talented actor. He was amazing in Glory. (And Homicide also. And everything else he was in!)

And yes! Read ‘The Art Spirit’ - brief but powerful.

Huge, huge fan of Raymond Chandler and Dashiall Hammett. Read the books that you posted. Just super wonderful!

Either that episode or a best of Bluey marathon.

There’s something resonant about that idea of a retrograde rocket in regards to brain zoomies. I’m going to think on that.
What’s Up, Doc? is my all time favorite movie! I think I’ll watch it this weekend!
Me three!
One of my all time favs, too!
Not to be missed this holiday season is Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings “it’s a holiday soul party”
