Just popped in to join the "Watch Homocide!" chorus. It's not streaming anywhere, but my library carries the whole series on DVD (so maybe yours does too), and there's an account on YouTube called DepositionsandStuff that has many, many episodes (tho not all), and the video quality is pretty good. So many great performances across the series , none greater than Andre Braugher's as Det. Frank Pembleton.

"Homicide" is amazing. Check it out.

"Homicide" changed television as we know it (it made The Wire--also co-created by David Simon--possible) and Braugher's performance on that show was next-level. It made seeing him in a comedy on Brooklyn 99 that much better. He was a once in a generation talent. Homicide is hard to find because it's not streaming due to rights issues. I don't know if it would hold up today but I'm betting it's worth it just to see Braugher's commanding performance.

Re: Braugher - perhaps the best single hour of TV ever produced is the episode in which he plays opposite Vincent D’Onofrio entitled The Subway. Both at the top of their game.

Andre was such a talented actor. He was amazing in Glory. (And Homicide also. And everything else he was in!)

I almost cried when I learned Andre Braugher died. Homicide: Life on the Street is probably my favorite crime series ever. I never missed an episode. A few years ago I put several DVDs containing the entire series in my Netflix DVD queue, so maybe you can get those on ebay?

I preordered the Nicholson Baker book. I didn't know it was coming, until I read about it here. I'm very grateful that you share what you find.

Nicholson Baker's U&I is one of the best memoirs I've ever read -- the story of his obsession with the writer John Updike. I think about it all the time and haven't read it for 20 years.... This new book of Baker's looks fantastic. I didn't know he had a new one coming out. Thanks for mentioning it.

I picked up at a thrift store Devil in a Blue Dress by Walter Mosley.... it was so good, so well written and paced.... I picked up 2 more of his books at the library. And, the Longmire series of books by Craig Johnson....just good escapist books I need right now.

My husband and I watched What's Up Doc a couple months back...I hadn't seen it since I was a kid. The romance aspect doesn't make a lot of sense, but I was SCREAM LAUGHING at the chase scene! It is stunning.

And yes! Read ‘The Art Spirit’ - brief but powerful.

‘Barry Lyndon’ is one of my top ten favorite films - so visually arresting - and O’Neal perfectly cast. I’ll cast a couple bucks toward Prime for a Christmas viewing.
