Announcing you’re sick is like announcing it’s your birthday. It feels a little needy. “I’m still here — tell me how glad you are that I am or I know you don’t care!” After essentially phishing everyone for their good wishes, you sit back and wait for the validating “Get well!”s or “Happy Birthday!”s to roll in. 😂
I was touched by how many people wrote after I mentioned I had COVID in Friday’s newsletter. Thank you. I’m slowly feeling better. I still don’t have many coherent thoughts, so I thought I’d share some pages from my diary.
I tried to note in the past week of recovery not just what I did but what I didn’t do. Answering email and flossing my teeth were the first things to go. I slept a lot, read a lot of books, and made some collages, but I eventually got so fatigued that I had to seek comfort in comic books and Beavis and Butt-Head Do The Universe and Black Sabbath YouTube performances and records I’ve heard a million times before.
