Speaking of dub, found this—I’ll let the tweet speak for itself (courtesy of @maxabelson and @artofcoop)
“A long time ago, I stumbled on one of the greatest music lists I'd ever seen, a ranking made by a teenager named Snoopy in 1977 of the 125 best dub reggae albums. Last year, I found Snoopy. Here's our interview about one of history's sweetest musical eras”
And one last one (honest), I can't see to find out the source that put it on my radar (WFMU? Ted Gioia? Kottke? Apologies if it's you Austin!) but it talks about dub, home tinkering, happy accidents, Eno with a very interesting metaphor about production, and a final quote from Mad Scientist that's killer.
Austin thank you for the reminder about an e-mail list! I’ve been needing to do that FOREVER. The one thing that keeps me from doing it: I have a BIG list of people who I have emailed about past projects of mine (digital series, comedy sketches, etc). What’s the best way to integrate all of them into this list? Feels presumptuous to assume they would all definitely want to get all my mailings, so I’m not sure how to do an opt-in situation easily where I can ask them if they want to subscribe - any ideas?
Re your great, funny reminder about mailing lists: I realize that, over the years, amidst all the amazing + educational things you share, I have most benefitted from seeing *how* you share - how you build an architecture of different formats and platforms and structures of creating, and then how you tie all that together so that there are no loose ends; a circle that keeps circling, and bringing people in. TY for that.
My condolences on the loss of both of your grandmothers. They (and grandfathers) add a whole different dimension to the lives of their grandchildren. Perhaps someday you and Meg will be grandparents and can pass on the best of what your grandparents offered you, keeping the legacy going.
Austin, sending you candle light to lift the darkness. Just read your link to Alan Jacobs and found the quote " More lighting of candles, less cursing the darkness." That spoke to my heart, then I read your journal entry about your grandmother and the moon and the owl. It all fits. I hope happy memories of your grandma bring you comfort and a smile.
So very sorry for your lost. Grandmothers are most important to the shaping of who we are as people. Our grandmother was called Momo and was a huge influencer in our lives. About a year ago we started our newsletter on Substack to honor her. Our newsletter is appropriately called Momo’s List. We write about unique product that makes an impact. This helps to continue to be reminded of her. We have added your email. Check it out

Seems like you could send them a one time email asking if they wanted to subscribe? I don’t know!
Now I have a movie to watch this weekend. I will check out the Kurt Vonnegut movie.
I’ve been listening to Teju Coles "year" playlist for over a year. So eclectic!
