Oh man, poor Kevin Rowland was having a rough day when he did that performance of "Come On, Eileen." He's got one of the most beautiful voices I know, he must've been sick or maybe had just worn out his vocal chords by the time they got to that song. I've always thought it was a shame Dexy's is thought of as a "one hit wonder" by so many here in the US. I had no idea they had so much great music until my British husband showed me the light. "Searching For the Young Soul Rebels" was the only CD I had in my old car for a couple of years, and I listened to it over and over and over. Never tired of it.

Sorry to hear the Frío Canyon didn’t work out, hoping the Universe will bring it back around in the near future for you. In the small town I grew up in we got to do a camp there in elementary school, it is a place worth returning to!

Hey Austin … apropos of nothing in particular, I’m reading a book that I think you’d enjoy: The Ride of Her Life, by Elizabeth Letts. It’s the true story of a 63-year-old woman who, after hearing she has 2 years to live, decides to ride her pony across the U.S., accompanied by her mutt, from Maine to California to see the Pacific Ocean. This is 1956, pre- any kind of navigational tools or credit cards. It seems right up your alley!

Damn, Austin, you're buds with Kevin Kelly: ubercool, dude. Your vid with him was a little long, and I was not able to listen to it all, but I randomly jumped to the section where you mentioned Sleepwalk and immediately bought it....screw whatever was so important a minute ago, I'm putting on some leg cuffs and gonna gorge on his great writing.

Hilarious about Ian McGilchrist. I’m hoping to start one of his soon. Perhaps I shouldn’t start with that one?!
