I use a date stamp for my daily to-do list for work! I made a laser-cut box to fit 3x5 notecards, so each day I grab a card, stamp the date, and then write in the tasks for the day. If it doesn't fit, then that's too many tasks! The next day I put my list in the back of the box in case I want to reference what I did that day (and can match it to my notebook notes as needed).
I love date stamps! As a kid I would go inside my dad´s office and play around with the stamp. I liked how simple it was and I remember going ooh and aaah while stamping with ink (I was easily amused growing up haha).
Nowadays, since I use an undated journal and planner, date stamps are my favorite tool to mark dates. I use it a lot for creative journaling, too. Something about the analog feel it gives on every page makes it so unique. Who knew an office supply can be this spectacular. Also, lately I used yellow ink pad for stamping and it makes my day a bit brighter. It really is the little things!
Here is an old video where I talk about where I use date stamps (they work so good combined with other stamps as decorative elements) and other office tools that work great with journals too. Starts at 0.27 https://youtu.be/SaUZcXefTIM
PS I squealed a bit when I saw you post this on IG haha
As a kid I loved the public librarian's date stamp and the one attached to a pencil so much that I decided then and there to become a librarian. And I did! In the 70's I started collecting other rubber stamps and used them on all my mail. I even bought one of the spinning wheels to keep them handy.
My sister found a massive date stamp in the shop at the rubbish dump! It's epic. It comes for play dates to my studio. I filmed a video for my newsletter readers on how to make a notebook and used the stamp. It caused SUCH a stir that loads of people went off in search of one. It's fair to say I LOVE date stamps!
I have a sequential numbering stamp machine which I use to keep track of the patterns I make to cut stained glass windows. It's faster than handwriting it and always legible.
In 7th grade I shoplifted a date stamp from my local drug store. That was the highlight of my career in crime, but I am still obsessed with marking the passage of time! May be time to go straight and buy another. Thanks for sharing your processes!
I have at least half a dozen, including ancient ones inherited from my father. The oldies were made so well that they’ve lasted longer than some newer ones that gave up after only a couple of years. I also use numbers from various stamp sets to sign and date, and I have custom stamps with my name, words like Limited Edition, 1/1, etc. (Check out Readystamps.com for excellent custom stamp sheets, unmounted - I am not affiliated, just a happy repeat customer). I date all drawings, cards, ATCs and pages in my Travelers Notebook and art journals. (My dad did for me what you’re doing for your kids! They’ll thank you someday.) Haven’t had a self-inker so I just ordered the green plastic one you showed.
I'm obsessed with old-school stamps - I have all kinds of rubber stamps for my diary that I've bought off Etsy and it gives me great pleasure stamping 'DUE' on projects or 'PAY BILL' instead of just writing it! My husband teases me - I think he thinks it's a bit of a childish passion but I'm always looking for new ones to add to my collection. Hot tip: Some ink pads are SOOOO hard to clean off little fingers and should probably not be kept in reach of kids; we've learned the hard way. Haha! :)
I post daily sketches on social media, with a stamp, and I get more comments about the stamps than about the artwork itself ! Funny how people love them yet not many own some
I'm lazy about dating my sketchbook entries, so I'm forever having to piece together fragments of a timeline when I go back through them. Maybe I need a date stamp 🤔. Thanks for sharing.
Date stamps
Y’all are sending me so much good stuff I’m collecting it in a blog post: https://austinkleon.com/2021/11/09/date-stamps/

Scrapbookers also use date stamps all the time. If you're interested in going big (numbers are 1/2") this is a cool stamp to add to your collection: https://www.studiocalico.com/shop/mega-date-stamp-classic
I'm a librarian and made some date stamp sneakers and bought library due date card socks. https://www.dropbox.com/s/xczknz0skkjs0m7/Photo%20Nov%2009%2C%2012%2000%2010%20PM.jpg?dl=0
I did a short doc on a stamp maker, I think you might like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dt65z1bAcY&list=TLGGBWFEuaE9S7UwOTExMjAyMQ

Mr. Kleon, pony up and get the Trodat. I luuuurve mine. Solid. Nice satisfying "k-CHUNK" sound when you stamp.

Date stamps are both essential and so much fun. I thought everybody had one byt maybe that's not the case anymore.
