I have been listening to this playlist while I work, and it's made copyediting an 80-page SOP so much less painful!

I was thinking of you while visiting Paris last week. Lots of examples of scenius found in all the artist groups who migrated there over the years. I was especially reminded of you at the Centre Pompidou’s surrealism exhibition where they had a room about collaboration in creating exquisite corpses.

Lots of great rabbit holes to follow in this week’s newsletter, thank you. I’ve downloaded The Art of Noticing, and looking forward to continuing my color collecting city walks.

Thanks for the shoutout! And the advice... and the encouragement... and the perspective. It means more than you know.

Also, sitting at the jazz club, don’t forget Elaine de Kooning! Wilem de Kooning’s wife. She was an artist in her own right. I actually schooled my oil painting teacher about her. He hadn’t heard of her. I love the way you paint that scene with words. I may have to actually paint the scene since Im painting portraits and figurative paintings in oil. I was asked do I paint to music…I don’t but your playlist is inspiring me to!

Autumn is my favorite time of year too. Up north, it’s finally starting to cool off. The leaves are changing and there are already some on the ground.

Every autumn I listen to Eva Cassidy's version of Autumn Leaves on Eva Cassidy Live at Blues Alley. Breaks my heart every time...in a good way...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBon6rGGuS4

Thank you for pointing me toward the work of John Hendrix! I'm finding his sketchbook pages super inspiring. And the BBC sound effects archive I sent straight over to my husband :)

That cassette album cover - absolutely captured fall. The colors alone! The type, the piano...🤌

Somewhat related... all this talk of jazz keeps bring me back to the living room of Bosch (played by Titus Welliver). If you haven't seen it, it's a great watch. But he has this amazing house that hangs on the side of a hill in LA. He loves jazz and after a terrible day of policework, he comes back to his ridiculously cool house with a mid-century feel and listens to jazz (on his hifi) while he looks out over at the twinkling lights of the city. Man, it's the epitome of smooth.

I love Bosch! He is the epitome of tough guy cool with a soft heart. I’ve seen all the seasons.

I love every single item in this newsletter, really brilliant collection. I too will be collecting colors!

Regarding seasons: Just finished Autumn Light by Pico Iyer (2019) and enjoyed it so much, I started it again when I finished it (have only done that a couple times in my life). Great read about seasons, seasons in life and autumn in particular.

I immediately put Autumn Light on my list. Thanks for sharing!

Oh I should get that. I saw Maria blogged about it a while back: https://www.themarginalian.org/2019/10/11/autumn-light-pico-iyer/

Oooh, I’m going to collect color this week!

Totally agree about seeing autumn in Texas before you feel it, though I am loving these mornings with temps below 70 degrees. I love leaving for work under the pre-dawn sky.

Thank you for the reminder about The MythMakers—two of my patron saints. They’re both on my tree in my Steal Like an Artist journal. CS Lewis now has a feast day in the Episcopal Church.
