Many many moons ago I interviewed Owen Egerton for the long dead website The Austinist. And while I lived in Austin it was always awesome to see the man perform either with Master Pancake or introducing a film at the Alamo Drafthouse or just doing improv. That guy is a treasure. So talented and so kind and cool.

I hate what Texas is doing. I'm in Iowa. We aren't as terrible, but certainly working on catching up. Our governor is also a part of the sociopathic league of governors.

Re: Claire Keegan--I must recommend the film based which is based on her book, Foster, THE QUIET GIRL, directed by Colm Bairead. Understated but stunning and heartbreaking. Thanks for recommending SMALL THINGS LIKE THESE, will definitely check that out!

Oh, now I’m excited to read Don Quixote. Thanks. I just finished the Camiño de Santiago on a folding bike, so more Spanish adventures for the win!

i had to google lede: - “lede” is the journalistic spelling that originated in newsrooms in the mid-20th century. It was created to avoid confusion with “lead,” the metal traditionally used in printing presses. Even though digital printing has largely replaced physical printing, “lede” continues to be used in journalism today. - from proofed.com - now i have a new word :) thanks Austin!

There are tons of other goofy spellings newspaper people love. “Graf” for “paragraph” will always be my favorite.

I had been familiar with the expression “you buried your lede” for two or three decades, but only just this year learned that I had been spelling it incorrectly (buried your lead).
