The Art of the Newsletter

How to write something you’d want to read

Hey y’all,

I had a nice conversation with Sarah Fay about the art of writing a newsletter.

5 things I wanted to add to our discussion:

  1. My top 3 tips for writing a newsletter people actually read:

  1. Newsletters should be letters”:

What I love most about newsletters is the letter part — the epistle, the missive, the bulletin, the dispatch! What’s going on — in the studio, in my life, in my mind — that’s worth sending out? Worth opening? Worth reading?

3. Show Your Work! is about all the stuff we talked about — it’s a book about self-promotion for people who hate the very idea of self-promotion, but it’s also about how to share your work and your process in a way that’s interesting or helpful to other people.

  1. The “So What?” Test from Show Your Work!:

  1. The “write the book you want to read” manifesto from Steal Like an Artist:

OK! Hope y’all enjoy the chat.

xoxo,

Austin
