Only the questions
10 things worth sharing: word games, music tools, ear candy, TV recommendations, and more...
Here are 10 things I thought were worth sharing this week:
Clive Thompson made an online tool that lets you see only the questions in a piece of writing. So, of course, I had to feed it the text of my books. Here are the results.
Another fun procrastination tool: Making music in your browser with Roland50 Studio.
On Tuesday I wrote about how I prepare for interviews, and y’all shared with me your favorite interview tips. My absolute favorite was the acronym “WAIT,” as in: “Why am I talking?” (I want to tattoo it on my wrist!)
For the second year in a row, writer Sam Anderson and I celebrated the writer Michel de Montaigne’s birthday by chatting about writing and drawing.
It’s no longer Mardi Gras, but you can always make a gumbo in your head.
A profile of saxophonist Yasuaki Shimizu. (I love his album, Kakashi, which has been out of print for a while, but somebody from Palto Flats told me more copies are coming.)
Ear candy: a wonderful soundboard recording of Kraftwerk in 1974.
TV: the first season of HBO’s Somebody Somewhere was both raunchy and heartwarming. It reminded me a little of Reservation Dogs in that it’s set somewhere TV usually isn’t set with and the comedy comes from a group of characters dealing with grief. (Related reading: “Laughter in the dark times.”)
I wrote a little post about my diary and playing Wordle with my kids.
The 10th anniversary limited edition hardcover of Steal Like an Artist comes out in less than two weeks. This thing is really beautiful. You can pre-order it from Bookpeople and get a signed and personalized copy or you can pre-order it from anywhere and get a free signed bookplate:
Thanks for reading. Hang in there. Keep going.
See you next week.
xoxo,
Austin
The Roland link was fun. I sorta want to stumble upon an 808 after watching the 808 documentary. But who am I kidding, I’d probably flip it as I’m not a musician. I prefer circuit bending Texas Instrument Speak & Spells.
