One of my favorite holiday cookies is the Peanut Butter Blossom. My mom made them for me and now my wife makes them for our kids. Here’s what her latest batch looked like:
While she was making the dough, Jules, our 7-year-old, helped me unwrap all the chocolate Hershey’s kisses that go on top:
Hershey’s Kisses are over hundred years old. They have an interesting history. That parchment paper flag that sticks out of the top of the Kiss is called a “flume.” They added flumes in the 1920s. The flumes originally said “HERSHEY’S,” then “HERSHEY’S KISSES,” and then in the 1990s they shortened it to KISSES. I think it’s a brilliant design choice because you’re left with these weird strips of paper that say KISSES® KISSES® KISSES® KISSES®
