Inside my studio
A tour of my work space + a new virtual private space for us to converse and connect
Hey y’all,
Last week I talked about building my dream studio, and this week I want to show you inside!
But first, here’s my favorite song about creativity by the White Stripes:
Well, you’re in your little room
and you’re working on something good
but if it’s really good
you’re gonna need a bigger room
and when you’re in the bigger room
you might not know what to do
you might have to think of
how you got started
sitting in your little room!
Exactly. The minute I had this new, pristine space, I felt a big GULP in my throat. I was actually super stressed out about it until my wife Meghan said, “You aren’t going to be happy in here until you mess it up.” I needed that little bit of permission!
This is the heart of the studio — two desks, one digital, one analog, made from IKEA butcher block counters on top of their Alex drawers. (Most of the studio is IKEA junk I’ve accrued over the years.) I like them in this configuration because it’s like a cockpit: I can easily swivel my chair from one to the other.
