The Slits is one of those bands that was immediately on my radar as a girl punk in the early 00’s - but I’ll fully admit that outside the amazing Grapevine cover I didn’t appreciate there amazing music. Put on Cut last weekend and was jamming hard. Thanks for the encouragement to rediscover these amazing ladies.

AND through that, you sold me on dub reggae! I found this track and wanted to share just in case it hadn’t crossed your path. I am a sucker for a Beatles cover: https://open.spotify.com/track/4Syz1PCBRXy9oAt5R3hEPu?si=A0j0xcFBQ9OVghEHh7_55A

Oliver Burkman in Meditations for Mortals, talks about the internalized sense of owing society. You feel

you’re behind when you wake up in the morning and you need to work to prove your worth. Very similar to your point 10.

Great book! Personally, I think you can trace it back to monotheism and the idea that God is paying attention every second to what you're up to (LOL)

Great piece on "I Heard It Through the Grapevine"! Would love to see more pieces about music. And I invite you--and any of your readers--to share some of your favorite love songs. I'm currently writing the first in a series of books on love relationships, each book's title is the title of a popular love song. The first will be either "All You Need Is Love" or "Can't Help Falling in Love." (Sequels to my book "1001 Ways to be Romantic." Please send your song(s) via LinkedIn messenger. Greg Godek)

Creedence & Marvin- THE BEST! Thank you for a beautiful reminder Austin. I am loving all the succulents & those COLORS! Crop rotation, I am heading into a life rotation, it’s time. I appreciate everything you share.

Wiktionary offers this origin story for 'succulent' --

"From succus (“juice”) +‎ -ulentus (“full of, abounding in”)."

FULL OF JUICE - right in your vineyard!

I kept going down the list and thinking each entry was more resonant than the last.

And then I reached #10 and your wise words about trying too hard. You named the blahs and the heaviness I’ve been feeling. Lots of focus on work and not enough of the lightness of play. Though “hoteling” at an Embassy Suites last weekend helped alleviate that. Playing with crayons for no good reason helped. I love that phrase—“for no good reason.” Thank you!

Thank you for the link to the video by Noah Kalina. I don’t know about him, and he’s a gem.

His discussion with his dad about creativity and self-compassion (because that is the essential core, I believe, of what his dad was trying to link to) was so powerful. Highly recommend watching the full 10-minute version on YouTube!

I'm always puzzled when I see a piece about reading and how it's going down in numbers etc. I will ask my librarian friend if she feels this way.

Since you seem to be a recent Neocolor II convert and I think I saw you mention somewhere you may end up buying a bigger box: I follow Caran d'Ache on Instagram because I love their supplies, and they recently launched new Neocolor II colors (limited 50th anniversary edition). The initial excitement quickly turned into frustration when we all collectively realized that the only way to get them was to (re-)buy a full box of all the existing colors + the new ones, at least the last time I checked a few weeks ago. They also sprinkled a sample of a few new colors into 5 separate mini-sets. But no way to buy just what you want open stock, which is disappointing when you already own a full set. End of the nerd art supplies PSA. :)

I just watched the Devo doc the other night! SO good. My hubby is away---I texted him immediately and said "you have to watch this film!". I was previously unaware of their beginnings, their influences, and their credo. It was super great to see.

Using old sheet music is fun for collage work. Love your succulents. Sad to hear about less book readers and to have learned this week kids are really having trouble reading as attention spans are not up to it. I’m totally analog for reading books and journaling. Edit on computer but creative part is all hands on.

I like the crop rotation idea. I have a big table in my studio and one side is always set up with watercolor and paper; the other side with acrylics and canvas. While watching your video I thought that perhaps my "crops" could be more different...like one side watercolor and the other side beading or collage or carving. Something to ponder. Thanks as always for giving me something new to think about. :-)

I love these succulent drawings! They are beautiful, and feel comforting for some reason…

I LOVE the succulent drawings! Great idea, to pick a thing and draw and draw and draw it.
