In the meantime, maybe I re-listen to Epic: the Musical. (Y'all may remember that a while back I mentioned in the comments on a newsletter that Epic's creator, Jorge Rivera-Herrans, is an incredible example of someone who shows his work. He's working on a musical adaptation of the Iliad right now.)
My husband is always asking, "When can we watch Airplane! with [our 11 year old son]?" and the thing that always immediately pops into my head is the topless woman running into frame when everyone is panicking. Maybe I need to poke around and see if I can find the edited-for-tv version lol
YOU'D NEVER SEEN IT?!? Holy cow! It was somehow a family classic for us growing up, along with many other completely inappropriate movies that constantly played on HBO. I'm not sure how many other 8 year old girls could name Cannonball Run as one of their favorite movies, but we were definitely a Burt Reynolds family 😂
You might already be aware, and maybe it's kind of cheating, but I got a subscription to Common Sense Media - you can look up any movie, show or book and it gives you a rundown of what ages it's appropriate for, including actual examples of any problematic content. It's been super helpful with choosing things to watch with the family.
I find Common Sense official age ranges tend to be a bit conservative for my kid's maturity levels, but the parent- and kid-provided age recommendations are super helpful.
When my sister was 7, she said to a friend in the presence of her parents, "Wait, you've NEVER seen Rocky Horror Picture Show?" to which the parents quickly replied, "NO, NO SHE HASN'T."
I definitely agree about CSM - I mostly ignore the age recommendations and just look at the content categories to get a rundown of any "issues". E.g. cursing is less of a thing for us than, say, nudity or sexual content, so it's great to be able to judge by what we personally consider to be problematic.
I’ve been on a Hitchcock streak too lately, and a surprisingly great one is The Lady Vanishes. Comedic spy thriller that takes place on a train!

Common sense is great — Apple TV also uses their ratings so you can kind of shorthand it
