Enthusiasm is no small thing--is it? Webster says the word came into use around the 17th century--borrowed from the Greek enthousiasmos, meaning “inspiration or possession by a god.” That sounds grandious, but I think it's important to experiment and find what brings *you* alive. It might be a set of unrelated things that form their own constellation of ideas for you. These days, the internet offers us an overwhelming amount of inspiration. But to have endless options is to have no options, really, because we're never able to embrace one thing wholeheartedly. To go deep. To really savor a big Idea and flourish in the joy of that! To build a real life instead of innumerable possible lives. Also, your talk with Walter was great, enthusiastic fun!!!

This one is especially great! Also please bring back the calendar and include that All is Not Well (but some things are) artwork! I'm love calendars (and clocks!) and I miss yours.

I need to be more public about the things I'm enthusiastic about, too!

I had no idea the Dallas Symphony was doing anything like this. It’s been a while.

Austin, I love your new art!

I feel that art is my life jacket when "things are not well." Although, I'm a visual artist (book artist), I have to admit that music really saves me. I stumbled upon another great rendition of the classic Sam Cooke song, "A Change is Going to Come" from an unlikely corner.

Charles Yang @charlesyang (and it is a pinned post), is a young classical violist with the Dallas Symphony, and was raised in Austin, TX. He is young, good looking and not only plays a mean violin (the Boston Globe describes him, "as playing the classical violin with the chiasma of a rock star"), but has singing voice that blows you away.

He recently performed an encore of the classic Sam Cooke song. He sang and played the violin at the same time. The performance sent chills up my spine. I must have watched it 30 times. So yes, Same Cooke and Charles Yang, "change is going to come." Youtube link below if you don't have instagram.
