Love these nuggets. That artwork made me think of the film About Time which hits you in the gut.

There's another Winter in America (1978) song, albeit Australian, by Doug Ashdown. It's my favourite saddest song...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AiegKW5UKgc

I suspect it may not have reached American shores...

YESSSSS electric kool aid acid test! I saw that on my parents’ bookshelf right before I went to orientation for college and asked my mom if I could borrow it. She said “of course….but it is going to make you want to try acid!” Reading it alongside registering for classes made me sign up for a 3-class series on the 1960s (history, lit, some seminar) which was the BEST decision.

Also I just named my seasonal playlist “in the dead of winter” the other day :)

I love “decline” as a verb.

Comment 1 is stunning...at first I was going to compete with you - you don't know what winter is...just spend this weekend in Canada...fortunately I paused...the metaphor is startling.

Hi Austin! I always look forward to 10 things. I was beyond THRILLED to see that on your Mixtape you included a song by Destroyer! I am a huge fan of Dan Bejar and Kaputt, both the song and album are are among my "desert island" pics. I assumed Destroyer was an unknown quantity outside of Canada. Boy am I glad to find out I was wrong! Incidentally, last year you recommended Panda Bear's Sinister Grift I listened on your recommendation and I love that album too. Thanks for sharing your fun and thoughtful recommendations, as always!

Love this post Austin. The Artists Almanac with the 'year long plan for creative growth' is so very cool and love this zine. :)

Hi Austin,

In which book did you write about "finding one's super power"? We want to discuss this in our art group. I have bought dozens of copies of your books to give as gifts, but I hoped you remembered off the top of your head.

Gil Scott Heron... showing my age, as a radio jock, I played this on the radio in the 70s. Great to listen to it again.... and it made me cry to think how on target it is today. It is winter in America.

You’ve shaped up my weekend plans nicely. The plan? Walk 3 miles in winter storm in Dallas, listening to a new playlist. Then, home to follow your guide to reading on the internet. Cheers

“The sound of having a smoke on the front porch in the dead of winter.” I love that.

Love #3 - the skies are continually concrete grey in the Midwest.

#6 - I read your process of how you got the cassette and had to tape over the punched out holes - omg, that took me back. I remember doing that all the time as an ‘80s teen. Thank you for such a specific analog memory.

Well, you know I love #4. Moby Dick for the win.
